Our library is a vibrant public facility for patrons of all ages. Our basement contains public washrooms, the main floor of the library contains junior, young adult, and adult fiction, DVDs, audiobooks, and more. Our top level is the reference floor, with its wonderful views of Fernie and our surrounding mountains, this where all non-fiction, biographies, opera DVDs, and magazines are housed, as well as our special collections including: travel, law texts, greenhouse gases and local environmental information, grief resources, and more. Our top floor also has public computers with free internet, and printing/scanning/faxing services (at a cost).
At Fernie Heritage Library we are very proud of our beautiful garden to the side of our building that hosts free 24 hour Wi-Fi, bike racks, picnic tables, and chairs for the public to use anytime. Our garden is a treat in summer, coloured with flowers, a relaxing space to read or study. We also have three Little Free Libraries housed in the garden, so even when the Library is closed you have access to books!
If you are returning items outside of operating hours there is a drop-slot on the northern corner of the building (5th Street, opposite Scotiabank). Please note that some of our larger and more fragile books must be returned to the Circulation desk.
Please stop by for a visit and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask a staff member.
Accessibility features include:
- Our parking area has two designated accessible parking spaces available (on the south east side of the building, access from 5th Street).
- The entrance door beside the garden has a ramp and handicap push plates to allow for easy opening.
- Our circulation counter has a low section to provide easy access for wheelchair users.
